House in Spain

How can it be possible to love things that are so different, nearly complete opposites? I have come to realize that I love so many different styles of homes that maybe I should become a millionaire and buy five or six so that depending on my mood I'd live in one house or another. Take yesterday's post, I love and drool over all the antiques and the patina and French furniture... <span style="font-style: italic;">but</span> I also love white Scandinavian style homes... <span style="font-style: italic;">and</span> I love castles and their ageless stone and wood and massive doors... And then, I love this little home in Segovia. It's simple, and neat, and a bit rustic. I'm ok with all my loves and luckily I can have them all here at my blog. Decorating in Antique Blues

Good morning, hope you had a restful weekend.<br /><br />This gorgeous house in Houston we are going to visit gets its colours from antique items which are displayed in every room: soft blues and platinum grays from authentic tapestries and furniture take us back in time, even though it was built in the 1980s. The whole place has an American-in-Europe mood. Calmness, a serenity and a feeling of soul and grace and history.<br /><br />The interiors were designed by Babs Watkins, her daughter Julie Watkins Baker, and Eleanor Cummings.<br /><br /><b></b><br /><img id="fb_image" src="http://www.housebeautiful.com/cm/housebeautiful/images/95/0310-watkins-02-de.jpg" style="top: -55px; left: 44px; width: 550px; height: 704px;" /><br />Louis XV carved-walnut front doors with traces of the original paint open into a foyer lighted by a gilt-edged Venetian lantern.<br /><br /><img id="fb_image" src="http://www.housebeautiful.com/cm/housebeautiful/images/nk/0310-watkins-01-de.jpg" style="top: -55px; left: 44px; width: 550px; height: 703px;" /><br />One of the many 18th-century French tapestries. Country House in Malaga, Spain

Today I'd like to show you this lovely 100 year old summer house in Malaga. It has been renewed and decorated mixing traditional English and Spanish country styles. Subdued colours combined with white, lots of wood and reclaimed furniture make this home very inviting. Farmhouses in Napa Valley

Today, dear readers, we are going to have a look at two farmhouses, both in Napa Valley. The first one was built in the 1890s. Northern California-based architect Howard J. Backen renewed it and the interior design was in charge of Backen Gillam Architects.<br /><br />Photography by Erhard Pfeiffer<br /><img alt="" class="featureimg" src="http://www.architecturaldigest.com/images/architects/2009/10/howard_backen/01_howard_backen.jpg" style="width: 600px; height: 497px;" /><br />Wide openings, screen porches and pocket doors are Backen trademarks.<br /><br /><img alt="" src="http://www.architecturaldigest.com/images/architects/2009/10/howard_backen/02_howard_backen.jpg" style="width: 600px; height: 497px;" /><br />A spacious kitchen and dining area at the rear of the rebuilt farmhouse. It has a screen porch that overlooks the pool area. Hundred-year-old wood from a barn in Eureka was used for the floors. The rafters were left exposed as a nod to farmhouse architecture. An oversize window provides a stunning view.<br /><br /><img alt="" src="http://www.architecturaldigest.com/images/architects/2004/09/backen/arsl07_backen.jpg" style="width: 600px; height: 497px;" /><br />Pocket doors—which remain open much of the year—separate the living area from the veranda. A set of pocket screens allows the area to be closed off from the outside as the weather dictates.<br /><br /><img alt="" src="http://www.architecturaldigest.com/images/architects/2004/09/backen/arsl08_backen.jpg" style="width: 599px; height: 497px;" /><br />For the covered porch off the poolhouse, the couple paired a zinc table of the architect’s design with wicker chairs. .<br /><br /><img alt="" src="http://www.architecturaldigest.com/images/architects/2004/09/backen/arsl09_backen.jpg" style="width: 600px; height: 497px;" /><br />The poolhouse, which doubles as a guesthouse, “shares the same architectural details as barns,” says Howard Backen.
